The SCADA Operations team within RWE Clean Energy ensures the daily operations of our control solutions for battery energy storage, solar, and wind projects of RWE and its customers are designed with the highest quality for the entire life cycle, from the development phase to operation. This position executes the design, support, and integration of our projects within the RWE Clean Energy GMS/EMS system.

As the Senior Associate, GMS, you will play a key role in the design, maintenance, and improvement of our monarch generation management system. You will implement project-specific requirements, services, and functionalities required by the plants, determine the most suitable SCADA concept for interconnection, and ensure the control system meets the requirements of our Generation Dispatch teams.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, support, and build of GMS/EMS operator displays
  • Lead the commissioning of new power generation assets and substations
  • Lead and support the interface of the GMS/EMS system to regional operating authorities, transmission system operators, and other entities for the passing of control information and operational telemetry
  • Lead and support the efforts of our GMS/EMS leads as needed to backfill team activities
  • Lead and support the monthly NERC CIP patching program for review, documentation, and implementation of security patches for the GMS/EMS systems and related applications
  • Provide high levels of customer support to the 24/7 dispatch desk
  • Provide off-hour support (rotational) for emergencies and major system events affecting the capability to run generation assets
  • Good documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Working experience with basic OT systems such as remote desktop, VPN, Windows Server
  • Experience working with PLCs and logic control of utility systems
  • Working experience with protection, metering, and substation equipment
  • Must be open to collaboration and working in a team environment
  • Passionate and motivated to work in the renewables industry

Job Requirements and Experiences: 

  • A Bachelor's of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics is preferred
    • Advanced degrees can reduce technical experience requirements
    • Master's for 2 years credit, Doctorate for 3 years credit
    • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) or ability to obtain license/charter within one year may be passed if work experience is 6+ years within a monarch generation management role
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience programming the OSII Monarch system for generation management
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience applicable to electric power generation, generation management, and automatic generation control
  • Experience with OPC data transfer from the site to GMS/EMS
  • Experience with ICCP data transfer, SFTP data transfer, and XML data transfer
  • Experience with SCADA HMIs
  • Experience with SQL databases and reporting systems
  • Experience with regulation and compliance requirements and processes
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.)
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams

Work Environment:

This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.
