Job Summary: Patient Service Specialist

Patient Service Specialist in a medical oncology office is responsible for ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the front desk area while providing exceptional customer service to patients and visitors. This position involves managing patient check-ins, appointment scheduling, patient records, insurance verification, and facilitating communication between patients, healthcare providers, and staff. Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Check-In and Check-Out:
    • Greet patients and visitors with a warm and welcoming attitude.
    • Ensure accurate patient check-in, including verifying demographic and insurance information.
  • Insurance Verification & Billing Support:
    • Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for treatments.
    • Collect patient co-pays, deductibles, and other financial information.
    • Assist with ensuring accurate patient data is entered into the system for billing purposes.
  • Patient Records Management:
    • Maintain and update patient records, ensuring all information is accurate and confidential.

  • Customer Service:

  • General Office Operations:

    • Order office supplies and maintain inventory as needed.
    • Assist with other administrative tasks as directed by the Office Manager or practice leadership.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience in a medical office, particularly in an oncology or healthcare setting, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, particularly in oncology, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical office software, scheduling systems, and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
