- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Emergency Medical Services initial credit and non-credit programs for Iowa Central Community College and the nine area counties.
- Prepare and implement lesson plans using a variety of teaching methods and assessment techniques.
- Exhibit flexibility and openness to changes as a result of the continual evaluation of the EMS training program.
- Evaluate and report student performance and progress in assigned courses to comply with department and college policies.
- Develop course objectives and maintain course outlines and appropriate records.
- Supervise scheduling of students in clinical assignments.
- Coordinate with clinical sites to ensure clinical assignments and objectives of the program are being met.
- Teach up to eight credit hours a semester of EMS or health related class(es) during fall and spring semesters. Does not include non-credit teaching expectations.
- Continually assess Emergency Medical Services credit and non-credit programs to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Effectively organize and teach assigned class work in accordance with established and/or developed syllabi.
- Provide organization, administration, and periodic review of all aspects (didactic, laboratory, clinical, simulation and field) of the program.
- Recruit new students to Iowa Central EMS credit and non-credit programs.
- Serve as an advisor to all Iowa Central Community College students enrolled in EMS credit and non-credit programs.
- Provides leadership to the program to maintain the Paramedic and EMT programs in compliance and good standing with the accrediting agency.
- Collaborate and network with other training programs, Health Education Center EMS coordinator and community organizations to facilitate Emergency Medical Services program.
- Maintain appropriate records and initiate and process all forms necessary to operationally function and meet national, state and local regulations and requirements.
- Attend and participate in department and college committee/teams.
- Set-up meetings with appropriate community entities to discuss training needs.
- Recruit, evaluate, and supervise instructional personnel (adjunct and part-time) to ensure an adequate pool of adjuncts to meet the demands of both credit and non-credit.
- Initiate requisitions for all supplies and materials for EMS programs.
- Submit online student approval for National Registry Written Exams.
- Coordinate local EMT psychomotor skills exams, as indicated.
- Oversight and engagement with EMS continuing education offerings.
- Utilize both credit and non-credit data systems and Learning Management Systems required for the programs.
- Attend state EMS meetings.
- Update and evaluate EMS program exams on an annual basis.
- Support and participate in extracurricular activities of the college.
- Conduct theory instructor meetings.
- Conduct advisory committee meetings.
- Prepare budget and consult with supervisors for EMS credit and non-credit courses/programs.
- Collaborate with EMS program medical director in all aspects (didactic, laboratory, clinical, and field) of the EMS programs.
- Engage in professional development activities and seek information about current developments in the EMS field.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Possess the ability to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
- Act professionally.
- Expand offerings to include, but not be limited to, EMR and Advanced EMT so as to offer these at least once a year.
- Schedule, at a minimum, three EMT classes within Area V and three EMT classes in Fort Dodge.
- Communicate schedule of non-credit EMT classes on a weekly basis to Associate Vice President of Instruction and Dean of Economic Development and Continuing Education.
- Explore and promote options for contract training, including CEU's.
- Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgement when making decisions.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and general public.
- Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
- Possess strong human relation skills, being able to work with diverse personalities.
- Respond to staff, students, and industry needs and questions in a timely fashion.

- Perform duties that are in compliance with current legal and ethical practices of the EMS profession.
- Demonstrate competencies and clinical skills appropriate to the field of EMS.
- Involve the student in the educational process.
- Must satisfactorily complete a blood-borne pathogen and hazardous chemical program.
- Must also comply with the Iowa Administrative Code Rules [59.12(3)] which requires a health exam upon employment, hepatitis immunization or decline, and yearly tuberculin testing.
- Persons in this position have access to highly confidential information and handle controlled substances and expensive equipment.
- Schedule meetings with Associate Vice President of instruction and Dean of Economic Development & Continuing Education at least three times per year to insure both credit and non-credit programs are meeting the needs of the community.
- Minimum of three years emergency medical experience.
- Must be a certified Paramedic in Iowa or at the National level and have an Associate's degree or be a Registered Nurse.
- Must be certified Emergency Medical Services instructor for the State of Iowa and certified instructor for the American Heart Association in Basic Cardiac Life, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Medical Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred or must be willing to obtain such degree within 3 years of hire.
